Copa Lesson Write Up | HiFi 07.10.15

Posted by Jake on 11th October 2015

At HiFi we covered Walk Throughs in the Beginners class and Copas in the Improvers class.

Here's the lesson write-up for a tricky week!

Remember - your Walk Throughs should be straight, straight, straight!

We are dancing on a line, so try and stick to it - although I know it takes practice!

While your Open Break makes or breaks your Copa.

Move 1 - Basic Step

Your Basic Step.

Move 2 - Walk Through

A standard Walk Through from open hold.

Move 3 - Cross Body with Lead's Right Turn

A variation on the standard Cross Body, with the lead adding a right turn on the 6,7 to change hold into Right to Right.

Move 4 - Basic Step

Another Basic Step, but using the time for me to offer the left hand on top - getting us into Crossed Hands Left Over.

Move 5 - Copa

Perhaps the simplest variation of Copa there is, the move uses a Walk Through to exit from the Copa position. Leads, remember to lead away from you on 5.

Move 6 - Basic Step

Another Basic, again finishing in Crossed Hands Left Over.

Move 7 - Copa Pow, Pow, Pow

Well that's what we called it anyway! Great opportunity to add bags of style.

Move 8 - Basic Step

Basic into Crossed Hands Left Over, again.

Move 9 - Copa with Left Turn Out

All the Copa moves start the same in this case, but the exit varies. In this case, the follows dance a travelling left turn to exit the Copa position.

That’s It for this Week!

Well that's it for this week, if you fancy getting involved then I definitely think you should! Check out events at HiFi for more information. This week we're looking at Cross Body Left Turn...

Nearly a decade ago, I resolved to run a salsa night the way I thought it should be run and the idea for StreetSalsa was born.  The rest as they say is history..

I've made some of the best friends you could wish for through dancing, and want to share what a life-changing experience dance can be.
