Ideas for Future Social Events

Posted by Jake on 26th August 2014

At StreetSalsa we’re massively keen on organising social events outside of the formal classes.  That’s not to say our events aren’t a great social each and every time!  It’s just that we understand just how important these events are to the network – particularly non-dance events.

That’s because in the years of running events, we’ve come to realise that people make real friendships when they’re getting to know each other outside of dance events.

Honestly, the friendships made at these events are the ones that can last a lifetime.

And although we like to get out for the odd drink or two with the best of them, one of my favourite things about dancing is the confidence it gives you to not rely on alcohol to get out there and have a good time.  It’s a cheap do, and there’s no hangover.

So that said, we’d like to reach out to you for ideas for the next generation of StreetSalsa Socials!

What do you think would be a good idea for a cracking social event?  Full marks will be awarded for creativity.  Put your thinking caps on, we just might make your idea happen…

Nearly a decade ago, I resolved to run a salsa night the way I thought it should be run and the idea for StreetSalsa was born.  The rest as they say is history..

I've made some of the best friends you could wish for through dancing, and want to share what a life-changing experience dance can be.

Warning : wacky and probably not very doable idea (one can dream!)!!

I think all of us who went to the west indies carnival this weekend wanted to get involved somehow so we even thought of having a look at how to get a float (or join one!) x

Yes - we should plan this for next year. Anyone qualified to drive a lorry? I'm up for DJ-ing it!

Some great ideas, I love the idea of a float Nina - it's wacky but we just might make it happen :)

Donna, I've created the first monthly meal as an event.  But think it's probably a better idea to do it at the beginning of the month so that people have been paid.  Also, it means we can start next week!  Get booked on here and let's decide on the poor restaurant we're going to descend on...

Halloween is a bit more problematic, it falls on the same night as Chilli White.  Do we just theme Chilli White?  Or maybe book out the Red Room again for a 2am finish?  Or do we put it on the Saturday, which is not technically Halloween?

By Carla (Carlita) on 27th August 2014 at 10:59

I think book the red room and do it like before?? But we could decorate and have a photobooth etc?? It would be awesome!!!! x

Anybody have any new ideas for social events in 2015?!  Matter of Taste and Calle Ocho will certainly return, plus Richard and I are cooking up a very special quarterly event that's going to cause quite a stir...

One idea that has always looked appealing to me would be a day out doing something like airsoft?

By Jake on 30th December 2014 at 18:05

What's that mate?

I really want to organise some socials over the summer, so thought I'd resurrect this post.  Any ideas for some sizzling summer socials?  Let's make this the 'Summer of Socials' to remember!
