what to wear?

Posted by Donna'ton' on 27th August 2014

So, many beginners dont know what to wear for salsa, and ask for my opinion......well, I say, whatever u r comfortable in.......I wear whatever im feelin like wearin that day, always comfort first for me, loose tops, flat shoes, but some of the women like to get dressed up in a nice dress n heels, its totally up to you....as for the guys, same goes, comfort, n maybe a few spare tops for when the social kicks in, or u could wear your best party frock too if u like....

What do u like to wear to salsa in?

Hi everyone, Im 34 and DO NOT act it.  You can usually find me on the dancefloor, messing about with the streetsalsa girls.  Ive been told i have a unique style of dancing, not sure whether thats a good thing or not, but apparently i have my own style.  I like to call it 'Donnaton'!!!

I love salsa, the friends i have made through salsa, and the atmosphere and environment it creates.

See you on the Danceefloor guys, maybe we can have a dance.

Totally agree Donna. Comfort first - I'm renowned for my whimsical array of t-shirts, but you can't beat a tee for comfort. After all this is NOT Strictly Come Sequins!

Jewellery is always a risk I'd say, necklaces would whip your partner in the face, earrings would probally be at risk with some of the under arm movements of being ripped out, and bracelets again could scratch your partner, so I'd say de-bling to the ladies.

I've worn both shirts and smart t-shirts plus trousers and jeans. I agree that to dance to the best of ur ability you have to feel comfortable so it's up to you what you feel comfortable in. What works for one isn't necessarily right for the other. Unless it's dress up time for big events such as Calle Ocho I tend to wear jeans, a comfortable smart t- shirt and trainers with a flat sole. I feel dancing in a shirt restricts me too much and I'm not comfortable wearing trousers to dance in, prefer jeans but at the end of the day it's a personal comfort thing.

I agree about the bling Karen, If I wear any I wear short necklaces so I don't hurt anyone. And I try to remember to test skirts out with a few spins in front of a mirror :-) But above all, I look for comfort. No point in being restricted by clothes!
